It has been my pleasure to meet a Cincinnati architect passionate about building a residential structure, from the ground up, which has every detail planned out about how to conserve energy, has low maintenance requirements and the lowest carbon footprint possible. A true Passive House.
Before meeting Scott Hand, AIA LEED AP, owner of Trilobite Design, I had little knowledge of or information about a Passive House, and what it really means.
But last week I heard him talking at an AIA meeting about his Passive House project; I was intrigued and had to dive in to explore it through pictures for myself.
Wikipedia definition of a Passive house (German: Passivhaus); Is a voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, which reduces the building's ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling. The design is not an attachment or supplement to architectural design, but a design process that integrates with architectural design, landscape and other environmental aspects.
