construction of The Photo, a story of architectural photography

If it's not about the process then what do we have left?

As architects, designers, manufacturers and photographers, or any other creator, we all have our process of fashioning our product.

Here is a simplified 2 minute story of creating architectural photography of the Clinical Health Sciences and Wellness facility at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I used a stripped down version of my traditional equipment I take on location.

Gear used is a Sony A7RmIV camera, Canon 24mm Tilt-shift lens and a Sirui Carbon-fiber Tripod. The strobe is an Elinchrome ONE. For the video portion I filmed myself with a GoPro 7, and a Canon 5dmIV camera. Post-Production photo-finishing was done with Apple computer and software are Capture ONE, iMovie and Photoshop.

I love the process, not the gear, www.studio66photography.com

Capture & Edit through problems

As a professional architectural photographer I'm are obligated to create amazing photos, especially when the odds are stacked against it. Traveling out of state to a project requires a lot of commitment in terms of money and time and a professional will need to bring back results.

When I arrived on assignment to the Mississippi Aquarium recently, I found the product awash in blue light, dark and flat and well, looking pretty uninteresting. The custom-color ceiling was not looking how it should and a long exposure flash, or any of the usual treatments wasn't going to make it better. I had to separate the product from the plenum and make them the works of art they should be! Each ceiling piece had to be uniquely lighted in camera and later put together in PhotoShop, finally adding custom color during computer Photo-Finishing.

Watch the 30second video:

"Mark – also wanted to say EXCELLENT work with the custom color matching - they

look virtually the same as our prototypes! I know this must’ve been a task because

of the low lighting in the space. But you did a great job! Much appreciated" ~Ally
